GROUNDBREAKING:  THE VENUE

Groundbreaking for the The Venue a planned residential, recreation and commercial development adjacent to the existing Valley SportsPlex, was held on location yesterday.  Civic and community leaders came together to witness and celebrate this project, which is viewed as an important early commitment in the long-term growth that will greatly benefit the entire Greater Valley Area.

The City of Valley’s SportsPlex is central to the lifestyle plan for this community.  Over 650 one- two- and three- bedroom quality and affordable apartments will be constructed within walking distance of the extensive recreational and fitness amenities already available at the SportsPlex.  The new apartment homes will augment the complex already on site.  Grocery shopping and other retail will be complemented by up to a half-dozen restaurant choices.  The tennis, swimming, soccer, football, baseball, and softball fields will be connected with a beautifully landscaped eight-foot wide greenbelt pedestrian path, eliminating the need for a vehicle within the development area.  The Greater Valley Development Group is adding an outdoor amphitheater to the location, and is expanding the existing soccer fields and tennis court sites.

Initial occupancy for the new apartments is projected for second quarter 2008.  The projected, phased arrival of Kia workers and executives will create a demand for quality, affordable housing in the Greater Valley area, which the Greater Valley Development Group will be poised to support.

The property design will encourage foot traffic, but vehicle accessibility will not be limited.  Residents interested in pursuing classes at the Valley campus of Southern Union State Community College will enjoy equally easy access to this educational facility.  The development will be zoned for the well-regarded City of Valley schools, but will also enjoy easy access to local private schools.  


Situated approximately one mile from the recently renovated 6-lane interchange and on-ramp at exit # 77 on interstate 85, the location of this development makes it minutes from the future Kia production facility.  It is also only one hour from Atlanta’s international airport to the north, and Alabama’s capital city, Montgomery, to the south.
